With this latest budget draft, the DNR is proposing cuts to it’s county field foresters. Many of these positions have been eliminated over the past few years (100 a few years ago to 69 today), and an additional four are slated to be cut. Wisconsin landowners depend on the field foresters support. Read our letter to DNR Secretary Cathy Stepp, which was also distributed to Wisconsin’s Senators and Representatives on the Joint Finance Committee.

Field foresters are eminent to sustaining our timber business, recreational sources and the beauty of our state. Their numbers must be increased as we try to move forward toward the goal of the necessary number of 100. Legislators do the right thing. Our forests are irreplaceable. Do not cut any more positions, but reverse this trend and hire more field foresters.

William,
Thanks for your comment. We’re continuing to stress the need for field foresters within the DNR and with legislators. As opportunities present themselves we’ll continue to stress this.
Currently we’re working on issues related to the MFL and will, hopefully, see legislation introduced to make the MFL more attractive.
Appreciate your support.
